gardenActually pretty well – 21 baby tomatoes, scallions, baby zucchini and baby squash, basil and beets. All organic and the tomatoes (8 of 9) are heirloom tomatoes.

What are heirloom tomatoes? They lack a genetic mutation Capay_heirloom_tomatoes_at_Slow_Food_Nationthat gives tomatoes an appealing uniform red color while sacrificing the fruit’s sweet taste. Varieties bearing this mutation, which have been favored by industry since the 1940s, feature fruits with lower levels of carotenoids (things that are good for us) and a decreased ability to make sugar (flavor) within the fruit.
